Lighting control

Dimmers, scenes and keypads, wired or wireless

A room should have more than on and off. We set each circuit to a level, group the levels into scenes and put a keypad where your hand already goes.

  • Dimming on every circuit

Pendants, recessed lights, sconces and cove light each on their own level, so no room is all-or-nothing.

  • Scenes you name

Cook, Dinner, Movie, Night. One press sets every light in the room, or in the whole house.

  • Keypads that say what they do

Engraved buttons and a layout you approve on paper before the first device is ordered.

The steps

From the first walk-through to the last scene

  1. 01

Step 1: 1. Walk the house or the plans

We go room by room with you, and note how each is used at 7 a.m., 7 p.m. and midnight.

  2. 02

Step 2: 2. A lighting plan on paper

Circuits, levels, keypad positions and scene names, drawn for you, your builder and your electrician to mark up.

  3. 03

Step 3: 3. Wire or swap

New builds get cable at framing. Existing homes get devices in the boxes you already have, after we check each one.

  4. 04

Step 4: 4. Program after paint

We build the scenes and schedules once the lights are in and the walls are finished, so they match the room as it really looks.

  5. 05

Step 5: 5. Walk the scenes together

Press every keypad with you, rename what does not feel right and leave a one-page guide in the kitchen drawer.

Questions

Lighting control, answered

Can you add dimming and scenes to a house that is already built?

Yes, in most houses. Wireless dimmers and keypads go into your existing switch boxes, and we check each box first because some older ones have no neutral wire. Shades and outdoor lights may need new wire where a wall is already open.

What if the internet goes down?

Dimmers and keypads should keep working from the wall. We design the system so scenes run from the keypads and not from a cloud account, and we tell you before the quote which parts, if any, need a connection.

Do I need a hard-wired system or will a wireless one do?

If the walls are open, wire is the better long-term choice for keypads and shades. If they are closed, wireless dimmers in your existing boxes give you the same scenes with far less mess.
